Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • NQF Level 3 (Grade 11) or a National Certificate in Construction.
  • At least 3 years of road work maintenance experience.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will support road construction and maintenance operations.

Responsibilities may include:

Road Construction and Maintenance

  • Construction of culverts and side drains.
  • Erection and maintenance of steel guardrails.
  • Construction and maintenance of gabions.
  • Construction of road earthworks and layer works.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of roads.
  • Maintenance of sidewalks and resting areas.
  • Verge maintenance.
  • Road surfacing.
  • Pothole patching.
  • Road fencing.
  • Pipe laying.
  • Setting of road markings and signs.
  • Installation of road signs.
  • Setting up and maintaining barricades around work areas.

Supervision

The Road Work Foreman will supervise road construction and maintenance activities by:

  • Applying safety and precautionary measures.
  • Conducting inspections.
  • Controlling tools, supplies and other equipment.
  • Allocating tasks to employees.
  • Monitoring and overseeing work performance.
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Coordinating the road blading programme.

What Does a Road Work Foreman Do?

A Road Work Foreman plays an important role in ensuring that road construction and maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and according to departmental requirements.
