Addington Campus in KwaZulu-Natal is inviting suitably qualified and experienced nursing professionals to apply for four (4) Lecturer positions, reference number ADD CAMP 03/2026. This opportunity is suitable for professional nurses who have the required qualifications, South African Nursing Council registration and relevant experience in nursing and nursing education.

The successful candidates will play an important role in educating and training nurse learners and preparing them for professional practice. The position requires individuals with strong nursing knowledge, teaching ability, clinical experience, communication skills and a commitment to maintaining high standards of nursing education.

The salary for the position is R495 423 per annum at Grade 1. The successful applicants will be based at Addington Campus in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a Grade 12/Senior Certificate together with an appropriate degree or diploma in one or more of the following areas: General Nursing, Midwifery, Psychiatric Nursing, Community Health and Nursing Education.

Applicants must also have current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) for the year 2026. This is an important requirement because the position involves professional nursing education and clinical training.

For the PN-D1 level, candidates must have at least four years of appropriate or recognizable experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council in General Nursing.

For the PN-D2 level, candidates must have at least fourteen years of appropriate or recognizable experience after registration as a Professional Nurse, of which ten years must be appropriate recognizable experience in a Nursing Education Institution after obtaining the one-year post-qualification in Nursing Education.

Applicants must also possess an unendorsed valid South African driver’s licence, Code EB. A willingness to travel is required because the position may involve activities between the college and clinical learning areas.

Skills and Competencies

The successful candidates should have knowledge of relevant legislation, Acts, prescripts and policy frameworks that guide nursing education and the area of operation. Candidates should also have an in-depth understanding of procedures and processes relating to nursing and nursing education.

A strong understanding of the nursing code of ethics and professional practice is essential. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of teaching and clinical approaches in General Nursing and Midwifery.

The position also requires good research and analytical skills, as lecturers must evaluate learner performance, identify gaps and contribute to continuous improvement in nursing education.

Strong conflict-management and problem-solving skills are important when dealing with nurse learners, colleagues and clinical partners. Good communication and interpersonal skills are also essential for creating a positive learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful lecturer will be responsible for providing education and training to nurse learners. This includes preparing and delivering teaching activities, supporting learners and ensuring that training meets the required professional and academic standards.

The lecturer will also coordinate clinical learning exposure between the college and relevant clinical areas. This is an important responsibility because nursing students need practical clinical experience to develop the competencies required for professional nursing practice.

Another responsibility will be to support the mission of the College and promote its image through professional conduct and effective service delivery.

Lecturers will also implement assessment strategies to determine whether nurse learners have achieved the required competencies. This includes monitoring learner progress, assessing performance and providing appropriate guidance and support.

The successful candidates will exercise appropriate control over nurse learners and contribute to maintaining discipline, professionalism and effective learning within the institution.

They will also be expected to implement the quality management system for the Nursing Education Institution, ensuring that teaching, learning and assessment activities comply with relevant standards and policies.
