Essential Requirements for Aspiring Firefighters:
The Prince Albert Municipality is looking for candidates who meet the following strict criteria, reflecting the demanding nature of the job:
- Educational Qualification: A valid Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- Driver’s Licence: A valid Code B Driver’s Licence or Code C1.
- Physical Readiness: Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) is mandatory. Candidates must be physically and mentally fit for the rigorous demands of firefighting.
- Medical Fitness: Pass a comprehensive Medical Test (NFPA 1582 standards).
- Clean Record: No criminal record.
- Flexibility & Commitment: Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and on short notice, as well as the flexibility to work at any fire station or section within the municipality’s jurisdiction.
- Foundational Training: Possession of Firefighting 1 certification combined with First Aid.
- Communication Skills: Proficiency in at least two of the three official Western Cape languages (Afrikaans, English, Xhosa).
